Young doctors in love

So how do you bring together a girl from L.A. and a boy from PA? Easy, if they’re both med students at Thomas Jefferson University’s Sidney Kimmel Medical College. Alex Whiting and Jaya Mehta “had a crush on one another—and neither of us knew it,” says Jaya, until Alex finally asked her out.

Fast-forward to December 2015, when the pair celebrated their wedding reception at Kimpton Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh. “It was the coolest spot in downtown Pittsburgh,” Jaya explains. “The ambiance and interior design won us over—especially the flower chandelier!”

Memorable Details

Although the two officially married a month earlier during a traditional Indian ceremony in Los Angeles, they brought the reception east to Alex’s hometown. And here at Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh, we went out of our way to bring the magic.

“The ballroom is perfectly set up for a dance floor in the middle of two large rooms, which really adds to the party-central vibe” Jaya recalls. A 10-piece band got the crowd moving. Guests kept their energy up at the Cookie Bar—piled high with 180 dozen crunchy treats, all made by Alex’s family and friends.

A photographer duo from Electric Lime Studios stole the couple away to capture the beauty of the moment in Hotel Monaco style. Backdrops included the marble lobby with its dramatic black-and-white flooring, as well as a glamorous gold sofa and floor-to-ceiling draperies.

The two are beginning their married lives together in Phoenix, where Alex is a neurosurgeon and Jaya practices internal medicine. We were happy to give this medical team a healthy start here at Hotel Monaco.
